I read a lot of romance, and a few mysteries, and some nonfiction as well. I hesitated about joining because of the categories, but decided to after all. My goal is level 4-Sleuth Extra.

Welcome to the seventh annual Cruisin' thru the Cozies Reading Challenge! I'm changing things up a bit this year. Sometimes we get hooked on one type of genre or sub-genre and don't venture out of our comfort zone. Maybe some only read culinary cozies, maybe some only animals or crafts.

To find out exactly what a cozy mystery is, check out Cozy-Mystery.com. This site is dedicated to cozy mysteries and does a great job of defining them as well as giving a list of cozy mysteries. This challenge is NOT restricted to what is on their list, it's just to be used as a guideline in case you need some hints on what to read.

Whatever you might like, I thought it might be fun to read a bit of everything. So here is this year's cozy mystery reading challenge:

Level one (Snoop) - Read one book in each of these cozy sub-genres (total of 10 books)

- One from culinary (anything dealing with food: restaurants, baked goods, etc.)
- One from animal related (cats, dogs, birds, etc.)
- One from craft related (any kind of hobbies - knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, etc.)
- One from paranormal (witches, vampires, etc.)
- One from British cozy mysteries (example: Belinda Lawrence series)
- One career-based cozy mystery (housekeeping, wedding planner, etc.)
- One holiday based (set during any holiday - Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentines, etc.)
- One travel mystery (character could be on a cruise, touring another area, etc.)
- One historical mystery (any mystery not set in the present)
- One is your choice! (freebie!)

Level two (Investigator) - Read all the books in level one plus an additional 10 cozy books of your choice (total of 20)
Level three (Super Sleuth) - Read two books from each sub-genre in level one plus an additional 10 cozy books of your choice (total of 30 books)
Level four (Sleuth Extraordinaire) - Read two books from each sub-genre in level one plus an additional 20 cozy books of your choice (total of 40 books)
From the Goodreads Group:Challenge Info

Here are the rules...

1. The challenge runs from January 1, 2017 and ends December 31, 2017.

2. You don't have to choose your books in advance. If you do, you can change your list at any time during the year. Books can overlap with other challenges.

3. Books can be in any format - paper, audio, ebooks...it all counts!

4. You don't have to post a review, but I'm sure others would love to know about the books you are reading and may even want to add it to their reading lists.

I'm adding one more rule...

5. If you can't find or don't want to read a certain sub-genre, you can switch it out for another one of your choice. However, this can only be done one time.

I'm also hosting this on my blog and you can join there, if you want. Here's the link http://socratesbookreviews.blogspot.comAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05440189844858417673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2640758158484590567.post-64951866417054755192017-02-10T05:13:00.001-08:002017-02-10T05:17:36.773-08:00Goodreads
I am so happy right now. Goodreads has finally added the rereading feature. I reread books often, and have been waiting for this for years. I never knew when I had originally read a book, or how many times I had read it. I wish it was on the app, though, because that is where I usually update my books. Still, that isn't a problem. I can always go to the site on my phone when I have a reread.

I'm 7-3 both days, so that should leave me plenty of time. I'm still working on a connections challenge on Goodreads, and I hope to get close to finishing that. This is my second time starting it, because for some reason when I put books together to read in a row, I lose interest, and want to read something else. I'm hoping to complete it this time. There have been a few books I've forced myself to finish due to this challenge. At least it got them off my shelves.
I read three books Monday since I was off.

A dark and brooding gentleman
Echoes in the Dark
The dark duke
I worked yesterday, and only read The Australian Heiress.

So far, I've read 4 books, and 1123 pages. I'm about to start Joe's Girl.

Today starts A Winter's Respite Readathon, which lasts until the 29th. I probably won't update every day, but I will try to at least every two or three.
My goal is to read at least a book a day, and more on my days off. I'm hoping to finish most of the connections challenge I am doing on Goodreads. Each book has to link to the previous one, by title, author, or publication date.
I am starting with A Dark and Brooding Gentleman by Margaret McPhee, which linked to Margaret Mayo.

With the holidays, I postponed this sign-up post but I just can’t wait anymore. Mark your calendars for January 21 and 22, 2017, ready your book stacks, and prep your reading nests (yes, you do need that extra blanket).

If you’re new to 24in48, this is the basic gist: beginning at 12:01am on Saturday morning and running through 11:59pm on Sunday night, participants read for 24 hours out of that 48 hour period. You can split that up however you’d like: 20 hours on Saturday, four hours on Sunday; 12 hours each day; six four-hour sessions with four hour breaks in between, whatever you’d like.

And that’s it. The format never changes but it’s always an adventure.

I just signed up for this readathon. Depending on my work schedule, I may not be able to read 24 hours, but I will do my best. I'm hoping these readathons help me get back into reading as much as I used to. i have thousands of books on my physical and kindle shelves, and I really need to get them down.

I, for one, am pretty excited about that!

Of course, like most readathons, the books read must be novels or novellas, adult or young adult are fine, and you can read children's books too (as long as you do read some novels too). Note: Non-Fiction is also okay! You DO NOT have to participate the entire two weeks. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my readathons, it will be a time for relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away our ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries.

This sounds like fun, and since there aren't any reading requirements for this readathon, I will join in. I'm in the Eastern time zone, so it will start at 1 am here.

I haven't done too badly, and I did read my goal of a book a day, even though they were short reads. Today, I'm reading The Millionaire and the M.D., and I'm hoping to read at least one more. Tomorrow, I work until three, so maybe I can fit in a final book or two. This readathon has really helped me read more. I started a full time job a few months ago, and haven't been reading much. Hopefully, I'll get back into reading this year, now that I'm more used to working so many hours. So far, I'm three books ahead on my Goodreads goal. I only made it 400 this year, but I'm hoping to do more. We'll see, but I'm not going to push myself this year. I made another goal to relax, and only read books I'm enjoying this year.
I love setting new reading goals. This year, I lowered my Goodreads goal to 400. I started a full time job a few months ago, and that has seriously impacted my reading. I read fairly fast, but some days I haven't even picked up a book. I barely finished last years goal, so that's why I cut 2017's in half. I'm hoping to read more, but I'm just going to relax, and enjoy whatever books I do read.

I did read a short romance today, Mistletoe Daddy by Deb Kastner. It was a cute inspirational romance, and I laughed out loud several times. I think that is a good start to 2017.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05440189844858417673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2640758158484590567.post-22278001929662005672016-12-21T12:03:00.000-08:002017-01-07T08:37:06.983-08:00Just Joined the Bout of Books readathon<span style="background-color: #fae8b2; color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px; font-style: italic; line-height: 18.48px;">The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 2nd and runs through Sunday, January 8th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 18 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. <span style="background-color: #fae8b2; color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px; font-style: italic; line-height: 18.48px;">- From the Bout of Books team <span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif;">http://boutofbooks.blogspot.com/
I was just going to delete it, and create a new one, but every name I came up with was taken already. So, here's a little about me:
I'm Rebecca, and I love to read. I'm 27 years old, and from the time I learned to read, I was rarely without a book. I read 700 or more books a year, and still wish I had time for more. I have been extremely fortunate to have good thrift stores and a great library system nearby, because there is no way I could afford to pay full price for all the books I read. I have slowed down a bit, because i started a full time job a few months ago, but I'm hoping to get back into reading as much soon.
I have a Goodreads account, and get books for review from Netgalley and Edelweiss. I love getting free books ahead of publication. I have been lax in reviewing lately, but I fully intend to change that. I'm hoping to get caught up within the next few months.
Anyway, I'll be back soon with a review post. The books I review first might be a little bit older, instead of brand new, but as soon as I get a few written, I will alternate between the newer ones, and the ones on my backlog.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05440189844858417673noreply@blogger.com0
